- Mexican Riviera Cruise
LaSandra Brown (March 25, 2008 - 2:53 pm) - My favorite part of the Mexican Riviera cruise was seeing so many whales on the whale watch. AND seeing a baby octopus up close and personal on the beach break. These are experiences we just don't get here on the beautiful plains of Nebraska.
- Ixtapa is a good destination
Jennifer (March 25, 2008 - 2:53 pm) - Just wanted to share that my Aunt just got back from a trip I sent her on to Ixtapa. They stayed at the Barcelo Ixtapa and they loved it. I think it is only rated a 3 star, but my Aunt is very picky and she was very happy. Said the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the food was excellent, and everything was perfect.
This is a good destination as there as it is something a little different.
They also had a very bad experience trying to get back on the airlines. Primarily due to weather, but just remember to always allow plenty of time in the connection city when coming from an International location. I would recommend nothing less than 2 hours for the connection to get through customs.
- Los Cabos, Mexico
Dianne Fallesen (March 25, 2008 - 2:52 pm) - View Photos! - Just returned from our annual group trip with about 50 people to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. San Jose is a small Mexican town keeping to it's Mexican culture more than Cabo San Lucas which is close by. We found the entire area one of the prettiest in our opinion in Mexico. It is a unique place for the mountains, the desert and the sea come together. It is also very unique because it is here that the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. We found the Lands End and the Arch that we have all read about - an exceptionally beautiful area along with the natural beauty of the entire area. We stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental All Inclusive Resort (a 4 star resort)for 6 nights. We fount this resort one of the best we have stayed at. The grounds are beautiful and very large with 3 nicely located pools. Blooming cactus and palm trees seem quite a contrast. The beach along the Sea of Cortez is very long - we could have walked for miles but the water is not friendly - not even to stick your toes in. That was 1 of the only 2 drawbacks of the resort. However, the resort pools are usually where we spend our time anyway. The Presidente was one of the best managed resorts we have visited. All the personnel were very friendly, personable but yet very professional. The food at the ala-carte was excellent and the buffets had everything our hearts(appetites) desired. We also felt very safe there. The other drawback of the location of the Presidente was the lack of nightlife. A taxi ride to Cabo San Lucas will cure that however, taxi's are expensive being about $35 one way. Cabo is also a golfer's paradise with the price of golf ranging from $150 to $350 a round. All in all, we had a very nice vacation. We would definitely recommend the Presidente especially if your main objective is to have a nice relaxing vacation. We also would recommend the Los Cabos area keeping in mind that it is in northern Mexico and the temperatures might be somewhat cooler than say Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa or Acapulco. All in all, we had fun!
- Great Resorts of the Canadian Rockies
Susan Cole, Travel Consultant (September 17, 2003 - 3:18 pm) - I just returned from the BEST guided tour of Western Canada! This Globus tour gave us an experience of Calgary, Banff National Park, Lake Louise, the Columbia Icefield, Jasper, Kamloops, Vancouver, and Victoria.
Everything was included from airfare to motorcoach to railroad to ferry. A very personable and knowledgeable tour guide was with us the entire time to provide insight and history of each area we visited.
The hotels that are provided in this tour are incredible! Also included are many excursions, activities, and meals.
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was my favorite hotel on this journey. It reminded me of a village in Switzerland that I visited one summer after college!
Western Canada has all of the charm and history of Europe, but without the overseas flight! The mountains, the wildlife, and the Rocky Mountaineer Railroad were all hilights of my trip. I can recommend this Globus tour for anyone who wants a good blend of natural wonders and interesting city sights.
- New Orleans - A quick trip
Steve Glenn email steveg@executivetravel.com (September 17, 2003 - 1:58 pm) - New Orleans is a great place for a business trip. My wife Marie and I recently traveled there in September. I was hoping the weather would start to cool down but it was still hot and humid feeling to me.
Our hotel we stayed at was the 5 star Ritz Carlton. It was our second time to stay there. We were fortunate to be able to find a deal on a junior suite and the room was fantastic. The hotel is right on Canal Street and right on the edge of the French Quarter. Bourbon Street is only about 2 blocks away.
Two places we ate at include Mr. B's and Bon Ton Cafe which offered "traditional cajun" cuisine. They both are very popular. Of special note on the menu at Mr. B's was Alligator. Our friends who ordered it said it tasted like pork (not chicken!)
The best part of our meal at Bon Ton Cafe (401 Magazine St. Phone 888-524-3386) was the bread pudding. The prices are a little on the high side for lunch but they both offer a unique atmosphere.
The best bread pudding I found on the trip was amazingly at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
With a generous layer of Caramel sauce this brick of bread was to die for.
I will be heading back to new Orleans in a few weeks for the Nebraska - Southern Mississippi football game on 25SEPT so I hope to visit a few more great restaurants.
- Steve travels to Seattle and Canada
Steve Glenn (July 17, 2003 - 3:47 pm) - July is the perfect time to travel to Canada. We left home with weather in the 90s and enjoyed the 70s for most of our stay in Seattle and Vancouver.
Seattle - Food....My friend Doc Chaves first introduce me to Chandler's for great Seafood. It sits right on the water and indeed has very good seafood. However the most memorable food they serve is a gigantic banana cream pie. You could feed 2-3 people with it. There are so many bananas in it that it could qualify as a fruit substitute.
Seattle - Hotel....We were pleasantly surprised staying at the Paramount Hotel at 7th and Pine in Seattle. Smaller hotel has nice rooms, reasonably priced and is right accross from convention center. Bathrooms have baths and showers. Hotel is easy to walk to everything downtown and is just a few blocks from Nordstoms and is directly east of Pike Market.
Take the train from Seattle to Vancouver....The cost is about $25 and the four hour train trip is right along the ocean. You can often see more eagles in this stretch than anywhere in the U.S..
Vancouver - Hotel...One of my favorite is the Delta Vancouver Suites. This all-suite property has great prices and the corner suites let you see the whole city and the waterfront. I always stay here when in the city. Cafe is also very good.
Gastown...This historic district is where all the action is for visitors. Very good easting as well.
More to come later
- Plymouth Choir returned from Amsterdam - Warsaw - Krakow - Prague - Budapest - Amsterdam
Randall Dinsdale (July 17, 2003 - 3:31 pm) - I give very high marks to visiting Krakow, Prague, Budapest for discovering a lot of unknown culture at extremely low prices. Accommodations were great, the people warm and friendly, and the cost of everything rock bottom. Warsaw is a great city, but tragically the city was nearly completely leveled by the Nazis in WW II. They've rebuilt brick by brick the old section of the city from dust and it is a great place, but most of the city is modern. All of these cities have experienced a huge re-birth since 1989.
Amsterdam is fantastic. It has much more going for it than just the red light district, etc. It shares the higher costs of Western Europe. Those flying through to connect to other destinations would be well served to spend two or three days coming or going. Some with lengthy connections check their bags into available lockers and take the quick street car connection to the downtown area.
On the downside: Minneapolis/St. Paul residents should hang their heads in shame at the appalling condition of their airport. It is filthy, uncoordinated, crowded, and poorly run. Compared to Amsterdam, Warsaw, and Budapest it makes US look pretty damn bad.
Woe to ANYONE who has to fly on Northwest Airlines ANYWHERE. What a hideous airline and what a hideous industry. It's a laugh that anyone connected to air travel should even wonder why people stay away in droves. Delays. Poorly kept aircraft. More delays. A three hour delay in Amsterdam, including the need to change aircraft [a full 747!] for one piece of junk to take the place of another. This was topped by a 6 hour [that's SIX HOUR] delay for a 50 minute flight from Minneapolis to Omaha. They offered us a $5 [WHOOPEE!] apology package [to what? buy a miserable polish dog and coke?] and a discount [so we could use them again!?!] on a future rotten flying experience.
